Description
1865 Two Cent Piece 2c, CACG MS66RB CAC
The obverse boasts primarily orange-tan patina with the reverse showing more brownish orange with some light-tan central accents, but both sides have in common a lack of visible carbon or mentionable abrasions. The strong eye appeal is boosted by good luster and an adequate strike.
The 2 Cent Piece was introduced in 1864, the next to last year of the American Civil War. 19.8 million pieces were produced, and mintages declined for eight consecutive years before the series was discontinued in 1873. The 1865 is the second date in the set with the second-highest mintage (13.6 million coins).
