Description

1907 $20 Gold Saint Gaudens High Relief Wire Edge PCGS MS63 (CAC)

The classic High Relief twenty dollar gold piece of 1907 remains at the forefront of collector popularity. Beautifully colored in honey-gold shades, the surfaces are uncommonly distraction-free for the indicated grade. There are few abrasions, none of which are overly significant, and the strike is bold and appreciable appreciable. Overall, an extremely attractive coin for the grade. Graded MS63 by PCGS and CAC Approved.

After the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901, Vice President Theodore Roosevelt took over the office. He typified the youthful vibrant American spirit and was prescient in his understanding of the role the United States would play in the 20th century. To that end, he sought a new appearance for American coinage, one that would project to all the nations of the world the vision and dynamism of the United States. Theodore Roosevelt was particularly satisfied with the coinage designs of Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In later years, when he reflected on Saint-Gaudens’ Sherman Monument at the entrance to Central Park and the two gold coins the sculptor produced, he praised Saint-Gaudens for showing the soul within his subjects. He asserted the sculptor reflected more than just beauty; rather, they showed the spirit inside. The coin is an iconic example of 20th century numismatics!
